Bottom Title When your pet is sick or needs surgery, there’s no time to wait. Our fully-equipped, on-site laboratory allows us to quickly perform routine testing, including:
  • Complete blood count (CBC)
  • General chemistry
  • Urinalysis
  • Infectious disease testing
  • Cytology
  • Fecal floatation
Pre-surgical blood work is performed the day of surgery shortly after your pet is admitted, and our state-of-the-art analyzers quickly provide a comprehensive picture of your pet’s health and organ function. This information is then used to help us create an individualized anesthetic protocol and anticipate any unique surgical challenges.

On-site testing can help our veterinarians reach a diagnosis, or provide guidance for immediate treatment while additional testing is completed at an external veterinary reference laboratory. An extensive library of complex tests are available to you through our partnership with IDEXX Laboratories, with most results available in 24 to 48 hours.

Ultrasound Digital X-ray technology allows us to take crystal clear images of your pet’s internal structures, modify the images—thereby reducing unnecessary retakes and radiation exposure—and easily share the images with veterinary specialists when referring your pet to other facilities. All X-rays are read and reviewed by a board-certified veterinary radiologist to ensure accuracy and confirm the diagnosis.  Ultrasound is a non-invasive imaging method that uses sound waves—not radiation—to create a dynamic real-time image of soft tissue structures. Ultrasound imaging requires no sedation or anesthesia, making it convenient for everyday use. At North Waterloo Veterinary Hospital, Dr. Fell performs ultrasound scans. Once the images and video clips are collected, they are submitted for review by a board-certified veterinary radiologist.

If a specialized ultrasound procedure is required, we can arrange to have a mobile radiology service visit our hospital for your convenience. Local ultrasound services are also available at the Emergency Clinic of Waterloo Region.
