Annual Physical Examination and Vaccinations for Dogs

Pet guardians and veterinarians have the common goal of keeping pets healthy for life. We recommend that each pet visits a veterinarian at least once a year for a thorough physical exam.

The physical exam gives your pet’s doctor the opportunity to assess the patient’s overall health and identify any concerns as early as possible. This meeting also gives you the opportunity to ask questions and discuss any concerns you have about your pet’s health.

This article, provided by the Ontario Veterinary Medical Association, explains the importance of the physical exam for your adult dog.

At this visit we also recommend that your dog is tested for parasites such as intestinal worms, heartworm and tick transmitted diseases.  This can be done with a stool sample collected by you and a few drops of blood collected by us during the consultation. Pet parasites can affect you too, so early detection and treatment keeps both you and your pet healthy.

The cost for the Annual Wellness Visit is $120.00 and includes any vaccinations that are required.  Our doctors will tailor a vaccination protocol suitable to the lifestyle of your dog.
The fee for the fecal analysis is $57.90 and the fee for heartworm/tick testing is $67.70.
We will usually also recommend a parasite prevention program for your dog. Sentinel is a product that is administered to your dog once monthly and prevents heartworm, and controls fleas and intestinal parasites.  Depending on the size of your dog this medication costs $15.00 to $18.00 per month. Consider this an ounce of prevention worth a pound of cure.

Please note that not all vaccinations are given yearly. We follow the guidelines published by the American Animal Hospital Association.
